Investigation Summary

On July 3, 2018, an employee was working for a cleaning or janitorial service. The service had a contract to clean rooms at a beachfront hotel. The employee was inspecting hotel rooms to make sure that they had been properly cleaned for incoming guests. As she was inspecting a room on the twelfth floor of the hotel, she fell off the balcony. The balcony measured 306 inches long and ranged from 70 inches wide in one area and by 42 inches wide in another. Security personnel were alerted and responded immediately to the location where the employee had landed. Emergency services were contacted and, upon arrival, the employee was determined dead by Horry County Coroner's Office as a result of suffering massive cerebral trauma from the fall.
