Investigation Summary
At 3:20 p.m. on May 22, 2018, an employee was cleaning the sawdust in and around Chop Saw #3 located in the Mill Shop. The employee disconnected the saw from the electrical plug and opened the door where the 20 inch diameter carbide blade had not completely stopped. The employee reach in to remove some saw waste material and his thumb contacted the blade, partially amputating his right thumb. The employee was able to later surgically reattach his thumb and was hospitalized.
