Investigation Summary
At 1:35 p.m. on May 7, 2018, an employee was greasing a chain and sprocket on a Weiss McNair Ramacher Nut Harvester, Model 9800, while it was operational. The employee reached into an energized chain and sprocket with his left hand that had a rag wrapped around it. The employee caught a portion of the rag in a pinch point on the conveyor belt and pulled his finger along with the end of a hose through the lower portion of the sprocket. The employee amputated his left ring finger and was hospitalized.
