Employee's hand and fingers injured in circular saw

Employee #1 was using a skill saw to cut approximately 2.5 in. wide wood filler strips for kitchen cabinets. His left hand struck against the rotating saw blade, and he suffered severe lacerations to his fingers, including partial amputation of his ring finger. The guard had been removed the previous day when the blade was changed, and it had not been reinstalled.
