Investigation Summary
At 12:45 p.m. on October 9, 2017, an employee placed a copper casting onto a wooden jig to aid in cutting off risers with the vertical band saw. As the employee pushed the jig and part through the blade, the blade caught and jumped slightly. The employee thought the blade had broken and was coming toward his face. The employee flinched to avoid the perceived hazard and pushed his middle and index fingertips into the saw blade, amputating them. The employee was hospitalized.
