Employee sustains face laceration from kick back of band saw

At 11:45 a.m. on September 21, 2017, Employee #1 was cutting an aluminum casting using a band saw. The part was shaped like a donut, so the employee made a cut with the part laying flat. He then stood the part up on its side/end and tried to make a cut to remove some small piece of aluminum. With the part standing up, the employee engaged the band saw blade. This caused the part to rotate down, and out of his control, and hit him in the face. Employee #1 sustained a laceration to his face and was hospitalized.
