Investigation Summary
At 3:25 p.m. on September 14, 2017, an employee was clearing Brussel sprouts from a wire mesh conveyor of a de-leafing machine while it was in operation. The employee reached into the machine with his right hand to clear three Brussel sprouts that were jammed in the machine at the wire mesh conveyor. When the employee released the jammed Brussel sprouts, the wire mesh conveyor began to move and pulled his right hand toward a sharp edge inside the machine. The employee right middle finger was amputated; however, hospitalization was not required.
