Employee injured in trench cave-in

Employee #1, age 18, jumped into an approximately 12 ft long by 6 ft wide trench that was benched on the south side at about 4 ft. The 7.5 ft high wall on the north side caved in, burying him up to his waist and injuring his right knee. The site had been extensively altered prior to the arrival of the inspector. These approximate measurements were determined by actual measurements of areas on the trench that could not be altered and through interviews with the site foreman, witnesses, and Employee #1.
