Employee hospitalized with concussion after fall to concrete

Employee #1, a machine operator in a textile machine manufacturing plant, was helping a coworker change a cutting wheel on a planer mill machine. This process consisted of unbelting the approximately 550 to 600 lb wheel and lifting it out of the machine with a hoist. Employee #1 was steadying the wheel when it began to tilt. He was standing 38 in. off the floor on the bed of the machine and fell backward, striking his head against the floor. Employee #1 lost consciousness and was bleeding from the back of his head. He was taken to the local hospital and admitted to the intensive care unit for treatment of a concussion.
