Employee Amputates Fingers While Using Chop Saw

At approximately 10:00 a.m. on June 17, 2008, Employee#1 was operating a chop saw. Employee #1 was cutting wood that had been premeasured to certain sizes. Employee #1 had lifted the handle of the machine, pulled the wood into the area where it would be cut when the blade came down by itself. The saw blade came into contact with Employee#1's hand. Employee #1's left hand was cut and he immediately wrapped his hand with some clothing material and proceeded to the employer's office to report the incident. Employee #1 sustained the amputation of his left ring and pinky fingers and was hospitalized for two days for the reattachment of his left middle finger and repair of the laceration of his left index finger.
