Employee cuts middle finger with band saw

On November 9, 2007 employee # 1 had an accident at school facilities located at Woodwork Shop at UCLA campus Perloff Hall. Employee #1, a facilities worker assisting students with various projects, was making a jig for students to use. He was cutting a 4-inch thick hardwood using a band saw. As he was cutting close to the edge of the lumber, the cut piece broke off causing his right hand to come in contact with the band saw blade. Employee # 1 sustained laceration and amputation of right middle finger.
