Employee Is Injured in Fall from Balcony

At approximately 10:00 a.m. on August 27, 2008, an employee was inspecting the framing under the balcony to see if any of the wood needed to be replaced. He had placed two pieces of plywood on exposed 2-ft by 6-ft in order to walk over them, but had not secured the plywood. He lost his footing while stepping on the plywood. At the time of the accident, there were no witnesses. The employee was taken by ambulance to St. John's Hospital. He suffered five broken ribs, a punctured lung and an injured spleen, which had to be removed. He was hospitalized for seven days, from August 27, 2008 to September 2, 2008.
