Investigation Summary

At approximately 7:15 p.m. on October 7, 2003, an employee for American Airlines, Inc. was driving a bag tractor towing four carts. The employee left one of the carts at the rear of the plane for rear compartment luggage, and then drove the remaining three carts to the front of the plane. After the employee brought the bag tractor to a stop, the employee stepped off of the tractor without first applying the parking brakes. The employee's left ankle became pinned, and run over by the left wheel of the bag tractor. The sustained a serious injury to his left lower leg. The employee was transported to the hospital where he was treated for a broken left lower leg.
