Investigation Summary
At approximately 11:30 a.m. on January 4, 2007, an employee was cutting a metal stud with the portable Dewalt grinder, Model Number D28110, Type 1. The employee firmly held the metal stud with left hand and was ready to cut it, when the stud broke. This caused his arm to pull unexpectedly upward. The employee lost his balance and fell backward. He tried to break the fall with right hand. His right wrist contacted with another stud and received severe laceration. A coworker was about 10 feet away from the employee and was the first to respond to the accident. The employee was taken to UCLA Westwood Hospital and was hospitalized for 6 days. The employee suffered a severe laceration to his right wrist.
