Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 201168382
Event: 11/20/2006
Employee Is Injured When Cylinder Loses Pressure

At approximately 5:40 p.m. on November 20, 2006, Employee #1 was fixing a leak on the hydraulic line for a trash compactor. He had lifted the trash compactor to its elevated position so that there was more room to work on the hydraulic line. He disconnected the line from the cylinder, causing the hydraulic fluid to flow out with a resultant loss of pressure in the cylinder. Employee #1 was injured when the compactor rapidly lowered. He was hospitalized at UCLA Westwood Hospital for a fractured left femur.
