Event: 08/13/2002
Employee Falls Through Attic Floor and Fractures Arm and Hip

At approximately 10:00 a.m. on August 13, 2002, Employee #1 and a coworker were laying down 0.5-in., 4 ft by 8 ft plywood sheeting on the attic floor joists of a single-family home under construction. The coworker was tacking the sheets into place, and Employee #1 was laying them out when he stepped onto a sheet metal lighting fixture. The fixture collapsed under his weight, and he went through the 14-in. gap between the attic floor joists and fell 9.5 ft onto the laundry room floor. He sustained a fractured left arm and hip and was hospitalized.
