Employee's arm caught by machine gears and lacerated

At 1:15 a.m. of September 5, 1998, Employee #1 sustained laceration on his right biceps while cleaning a fryer machine at the employer's noodle factory, located in Gardena, California. Employee #1 opened the covers of the gear and sprocket drives to wash down the machine conveyor while it was running. The machine gears grabbed his shirt, pulled his arm into nip points of gears, and caused lacerations on his right bicep. Employee #1 was hospitalized.
