Investigation Summary
At 1:10 p.m. on November 6, 2001, employees were screwing together two oil drilling pipes at an oil drilling site of BSI located in Los Angeles, CA, which was accomplished by one having one of the pipes held by a 36 in. pipe wrench, while the other pipe was screwed in by motor. According to employer, the pipe had torque stored that upon release, spun around, hitting Employee #1 on the back of head. Employee #1 was transported while in a coma and was comatose for sometime. Employee #1 sustained brain injuries with impaired speech and recollection.
