Employee amputated finger while working on the crane

On August 23, 2001, Employee #1 and Employee #2 of Anglemyer Crane Rental were using a carry deck crane to lift and position a stack of plywood on top of an elevated storage area. Employee #1 was standing on top of the elevated storage area and Employee #2 was operating the crane. Employee #1 removed the nylon straps from the stack of plywood and directed Employee #2 to retract the boom and elevate the ball. Employee #2 began retracting the boom and elevating the ball when for some unknown reason Employee #1 placed his left hand on the stationary jib bracket located on the right side of the boom. Employee #1 got his finger caught in between the stationary and movable jib bracket. Employee #1 was taken to Covina Intercommunity Hospital, where he was treated for amputation of the first joint of his left index finger.
