Employee Falls Through Unguarded Skylight

On June 15, 2001, Employee #1 was taking the pressure reading of a filter unit. Employee #1 then turned to walk towards the other unit to obtain another reading. In the process of turning to the side, he tripped over the leading edge of a skylight frame and fell twenty five feet through the skylight. He landed on a cement floor in a production area. He sustained multiple fractures and internal injuries. His employer failed to provide adequate fall protection. Employee #1 was hospitalized for 30 days. He was employed for one week via a temporary agency to work as a "granulator" at this company that produces calcium carbonate powder for use in the food industry.
