Saw kicks back and lacerates Employee's neck

At 1:00 p.m. on December 7, 2002, Employee #1, subcontractor working at a construction site, was working at a two-story office building its associated parking areas and driveways. Employee #1's immediate supervisor and coworkers were not on site at the time of the accident. The employee was cutting a standard concrete curb 6 to 8 in. high using a Steahl 760 concrete cutting saw with a 14-in. diamond segmented blade. While Employee #1 was cutting the curb, the saw suddenly kicked back and lacerated his neck between the neck and shoulder area. He was hospitalized.
