Employee's Fingers Are Injured in Disc Grinder

At 1:25 p.m. on September 25, 2006, Employee #1, a maintenance mechanic with Del Mar Die Casting, was deburring a piece of steel (2 in. by 6 in. by 0.125 in.) on a 16 in. disc grinder. He was holding the piece, when the disc pulled his hand into the abrasive surface and caught his glove. He was hospitalized for abrasions of his left index finger and thumb. The tip of his index finger was subsequently amputated.
