Employee Finger Is Amputated When Caught in Rollers

On September 23, 2005, The employee worked for the company that recycles oil filter. A load filters were delivered by truck with slide off bins. The employee was wiping excess oil from the back of the bin and the rollers it slid on, so as to prevent oil spillage on the highway. He was resting his hand on the rails when the driver of the truck activated the controls to pull the bin back onto the truck. He was out of sight of the operator. The employee's fingers on his left hand were caught in the rollers, crushing them. When he pulled back his hand, he did so with such force as to deglove the middle finger. He was taken to the hospital where the finger was amputated and he was hospitalized.
