Investigation Summary
Employee #1 was a painter who had been with Carnahan and Associates approximately four months. On the day of the accident, Employee #1 was cutting a 2-foot by 4-foot piece of plywood to correct a window at the site. He was using a Type 1 Skil Saw which had been inspected by the supervisor prior to being brought on site. The guard on the saw was not pinned or wedged back. The 2-foot by 4-foot piece of plywood may have had a knot that stopped the operation of the saw resulting in the saw kicking back and catching Employee #1's left thumb. Employee #1 was transported by the Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics to Northridge Hospital Medical Center for emergency medical treatment and he was admitted the same day.
