Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 170611941
Event: 10/31/1998
Employee injured by moving trailer wheel

Employee #1 was assigned to pick corn on a farm. After the trailer was filled to capacity, he decided to jump on the running stepboard of the trailer and catch a ride to the roadway. The tractor driver was arguing with another coworker. Employee #1 saw the argument getting heated and decided to jump off. At the same time, the driver of the tractor put the equipment in high gear and popped the clutch to accelerate. When Employee #1 jumped off, the accelerated motion threw him against the large trailer tire. He sustained a broken leg, for which he was hospitalized.
