Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 201155959
Event: 03/15/2002
Employee injured in fall from scissor lift

At approximately 8:35 a.m. on March 15, 2002, Employee #1, a foreman working for Bergman Drywall, was working at a warehouse under construction. The employee was taping drywall from an Economy, Model BC2133 scissor lift being used as an elevated work platform. The employee was taping in the northeast part of the stairway area of the building. The height of the work platform of the fully-extended scissor lift was 21 feet. The employee, however, extended the height of the elevated work platform by placing a wooden plank on the top rails of the fully-extended scissor lift to gain access to a working height of 28 feet. For an unknown reason, the scissor lift moved and Employee #1 fell more than 24 feet to the concrete floor and sustained multiple fractures to his right lower leg and both ankles. The employee was taken to Riverside Community Hospital in Riverside, CA for treatment and was hospitalized for 6 days.
