Employee # 1 was injured when hatch hit him, hospitalized

At approximately 3:00 p.m. on February 6, 2001 Employee #1 and Employee #2 were checking leaks in a cell of a pontoon (10 ft by 10 ft by 58 ft) using air pressure of 2 psi. a gage was installed on the opening (about 36 in. outer diameter, actual opening 24 inches. The victim closed the air valve after filling the cell. They were checking the leak when the lid of the blew and the "T" part of the hatch on the lid, hit Employee #1 on the face and the was thrown away due to air impact and resulted a serious injury (multiple fractures). Employee #2 was also thrown away but he did not sustain any serious injury. Both were taken to Loma Linda University Medical Center by paramedics. Employee #2 was released after check up and the Employee #1 was hospitalized for 6 days.
