Employee's Finger Is Amputated While Lifting Rack

At approximately 12:40 p.m. on November 19, 2004, an employee, a mechanic, was manually moving a newly assembled static rack, weighing approximately 400 lbs, in position for sending it to another shipping area in the packages shipping facility. During lifting the rack from one side with an iron bar, it slid and his gloved right index finger got pinched between a latch and the rack's frame. The employee sustained crushing injury of his right index finger tip. The employee was taken to the Concentra Medical Clinic, Ontario, CA. Amputation surgery was performed the same day, and the employee returned to work next day.
