Employee Is Injured in Fall from Mezzanine Level

At or about 12:30 p.m. on April 19, 2005, Employee #1 was working for a firm that provided brick and stone veneers, perimeter site walls, retaining and garden walls, masonry fireplaces, model home hardscape, and metal prefabricated fireplaces. Employee #1 and a coworker were moving molds from a mezzanine floor that was nine feet above a concrete floor. A 36-in. high guardrail that had been in place on the mezzanine floor had been removed. As he moved molds, Employee #1 stepped back and fell the nine feet to the concrete floor below. He sustained multiple physical injuries of his head and back, in the form of bruises, contusions, and abrasions. He was taken to the Riverside Community Hospital, in Riverside, CA, for treatment. He was hospitalized, and surgery was performed.
