Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 201070380
Event: 10/23/2006
Employee's Pelvis Is Fractured When Run Over

At approximately 7:30 a.m. on October 23, 2006, Employee #1, a coworker and a supervisor, were doing landscape work. The supervisor asked the coworker to go down the street and get another bag of fertilizer from the back of a Ford F-150 extended bed truck. The coworker decided to drive the truck back instead of carrying individual bags back and forth. He started to back up the truck and ran over Employee #1 who was behind the truck. The coworker paniced and hit the gas peddle instead of the brake. He dragged Employee #1 underneath the truck, approximately 80 to 100 ft, until the truck smashed into a retaining wall. The supervisor pulled the truck forward to free Employee #1. Employee #1 received multiple pelvic fractures, right hip dislocation, skin abrasions, blunt abdominal trauma, and blunt chest trauma. Employee #1 was hospitalized.
