Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 170869697
Event: 02/23/2000
Employee's leg fractured in fall from scaffold

At approximately 12:00 noon on February 23, 2000, Employee #1, of Northfork Drywall, was finishing drywall taping on a house in a new subdivision in Folsom, CA. He was applying the finish skim coat at the joint between the ceiling and wall over a circular staircase to the second floor. To reach the ceiling, Employee #1 had erected a makeshift scaffold comprised of an extension ladder leaned against the wall supporting two 2 ft by 10 in. by 12 ft planks being used as platforms and set perpendicular to one another. Employee #1 was working from one of the planks when he fell approximately 4 ft onto the stairway. He was treated by paramedics and then transported to Folsom Sutter Hospital, where he was admitted with a compound fracture of his lower leg.
