Employee injured when struck by race car

At approximately 9:30 p.m. on June 27, 1998, Employee #1 was flagging an auto race. The flag stand from which he was working was 3 ft above the race track surface, and was constructed of iron posts and steel plates. A race car crashed and became airborne, flying toward the flag stand. Employee #1 saw the accident and threw himself on the floor of the stand before the car crashed into it. He was hospitalized for five days for treatment of seven broken ribs, a fractured collarbone, a dislocated shoulder, and internal trauma.
