Employee Amputates Finger in Conveyor Bands

At approximately 7:30 a.m. on August 13, 2002, Employee #1 was replacing the braided rubber bands on the conveyor shaft of the full box line conveyor system. The unit was running and the shaft was turning when the bands moved and twisted together. Employee #1 was reaching into the area to move the clustered bands away from the conveyor roller unit when his right finger was caught in the bands and was amputated at the second knuckle. Employee #1 was transported to Dameron Hospital, where he was treated and released.
