Investigation Summary
At approximately 8:30 a.m. on August 12, 1998, Employee #1, of Pick-n-Pull, was using a Volvo I70 front end loader to move cars around the salvage yard in search for a particular vehicle. He stopped the loader and climbed out of the cab and up onto the back fender area, where he could see over the cars. Employee #1 was starting back down when he lost his balance and fell off the back of the loader, striking the battery box before landing on the ground. He suffered a concussion and fractured several ribs. Employee #1 was administered first aid and was then transported by ambulance to Methodist Hospital in Sacramento, CA, where he was admitted for treatment. The loader's fender area was a mechanic's service area, and was covered with slip-resistant tape and equipped with a handhold.
