Employee's fingertip amputated when caught in conveyor

Employee #1 reached out to straighten a piece of wood stock (.75 in. by 1.5 in. by 14 in.) that was on a flat belt conveyor to prevent it from plugging the conveyor. Employee #1 was at the end of the belt from which pieces fall onto a conveyor system below. He inadvertently placed his hand at the point where the belt contacts the head drum. The tip of his left middle finger was pinched between the belt and the drum, crushing and amputating the finger tip.
