Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 170873087
Event: 06/03/2002
Employee injured when sprayed by hot juice

On June 3, 2002, Employee #1 was an operator and mechanic responsible for overseeing the filling of glass jars with a hot juice. Juice was observed coming from a clamp on top of the filler machinery and Employee #1 went on top to tighten the clamp. While tightening the clamp, the threaded screw sheared off, releasing the clamp and causing hot juice at approximately 190-to-195-degrees Fahrenheit to spray on Employee #1. Facility personnel administered first aid and Employee #1 was taken to Rideout Memorial Hospital in Marysville. Employee #1 was released the same day, but after seeing two doctors on June 4, 2002, was readmitted to Fremont Hospital in Yuba City. Employee #1 sustained first- and second-degree burns to his face, upper chest, and arms. Employee #1 was released from the hospital on June 8, 2002.
