Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 170626600
Event: 09/26/2001
Employee injured after truck bed fell on his feet

At approximately 1:04 p.m. on September 9, 2001, Employee #1 and 2 of South Tahoe Refuse Company, Inc. were working within the bed area of a compaction garbage truck, replacing the metal floor. Employee #1 was grinding the old welds from the frame, and Employee #2 was using the torch cutting the metal floor panels out of the truck. The dump bed of the truck had been raised 4 to 6 in. to allow metal plates to be placed under the bed to protect the hydraulic hoses. While cutting out the floor panels it came free, the hydraulic ramps holding the bed had broken mounting brackets and came loose dropping the truck bed on the feet of the coworker. The first aid was provided before being transported to Barton Memorial Hospital, South Lake Tahoe, where he was treated for broken toes and crushing injuries to his feet.
