Two Employees Shot In A WorkPlace Violence Incident

At approximately 11:37 a.m. on January 10, 2001, Employee #1 was killed and Employee #2 was seriously wounded in a workplace violence shooting incident at a Lyons restaurant in Nevada City, California. The assailant entered the restaurant and first proceeded to his left and then proceeded to enter the kitchen. He asked to see the "Manager" (Employee #1), not by name, just title. Other employees asked if they could help him. At this time, Employee #1 walked into the kitchen and the assailant pulled a gun out of his backpack and shot Employee #1 multiple times. Employee #1 was fatally wounded and died. Other employees ran from the kitchen and restaurant trying to escape and warn others. Employee #2 was able to escape the scene and went to his vehicle to summon emergency services. When he reached inside of his truck to get his phone he was shot from behind multiple times. Employee #2 was seriously injured and was later taken to Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital for treatment.
