Employee's hand lacerated

On January 13, 2001, an employee (laborer) was working for a concrete crushing and recycling center. He noticed a hose was leaking along side a radial stacking belt conveyor. To work on the hose he took his gloves off and placed them on the frame of the conveyor. During the repairs the gloves were knocked off the frame and onto return of the conveyor belt, near the tail pulley. Seeing the gloves flopping around the tail of the pulley, the employee got down on his stomach and reached behind the guards into that area to grab his gloves. When he reached for the gloves his hand was caught in the nip-point and his arm was pulled in above the elbow. A coworker heard him yell and turned off the machine. First aid was provided by the local fire department before he was transported by ambulance to the hospital. He was treated for a broken arm and severe lacerations.
