Employee Amputates Fingers When Caught in Machine

On March 18, 2004, Employee #1 was cleaning the Bowel machine that makes tortillas and inadvertently pushed a button located in the rear of machine. When the button was pushed, the machine started to run and the piston caught his fingers against an inner cylinder. Employee #1 sustained amputations of the middle, ring, and small fingers on his right hand after coming in contact with the piston of the machine. He was treated at the scene and transported to the hospital, where he remained for two weeks.
