Employee Struck by Hot Flying Substance

Employee #1 was in the process of cleaning a plugged cyclone, located in a cement manufacturing plant. Within the cyclone, limestone and other minerals are heated to temperatures above 1200 degrees Fahrenheit. When a "Plug" occurs, a high pressure water stream is used to break-apart the plug. Employee #1 was using the "Poke Down Gun" via a porthole to break the plug, when hot material flew out of the porthole. The flying substance landed on Employee #1, resulting in serious second and third degree burns. Employee #1 was hospitalized.
