Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 170870513
Event: 06/15/2001
Grader Loses Finger And Has Lacerations Working Cull Line

At approximately 3:00 p.m. on June 15, 2001, Employee #1, a grader for Kaprielian Brothers Packing, was working at a cull line where fruit is put into wooden bins. A fork truck operator arrived at the site to remove the full bin. When the operator started to elevate the bin, he didn't see Employee #1 place his hand near the cull chute. When he moved the full bin, Employee #1's finger became caught between the chute and the bin. As a result, he lost his pinky finger on his right hand and lacerated his hand. Employee #1 was taken to Sierra Hospital in Reedley, California and then transferred to Davies Medical Center in San Francisco, California, where he was admitted for treatment.
