Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 201101565
Event: 03/27/2000
Employee Suffers Broken Fingers And Amputation Of One Finger

Employee #1 works as a millwright. Employee #1 was replacing some retaining clips on the dry kiln door hangers. These door hangers move along the front of the dry kilns. They are used to fasten to the door of the dry kiln and raise the door up so it can be moved to the side. This opens the dry kiln for loading and unloading. Employee #1 was moving the door hanger back and forth by hand after placing new retaining clips on the hanger. The hanger came off its track as Employee #1 moved it. The wheel of the hanger ran over Employee #1's fingers on his left hand when he reached up to stop the movement of the door hanger as it fell off the track. Employee #1's ring finger on his left hand was amputated by the wheel of the hanger. Employee #1 was treated for his injuries but was not hospitalized.
