Investigation Summary
At approximately 11:30 a.m. on October 1, 1999, Employee #1 was part of a plastering crew descending the metal frame of a scaffold for lunch. Employee #1 had stepped to the outside of the scaffold platform to hand a bucket down to a coworker when the outside plank gave way and he fell approximately 7 ft to the ground, landing on his left hip. He was taken by ambulance to Woodland Memorial Hospital and then transferred to UC Davis Medical Center, where he underwent surgery for a fractured hip. Subsequent investigation revealed that the outside platform plank had moved and was no longer fully supported by the scaffold frame.
