Investigation Nr: 170866891
Event: 06/22/1999
Employee's thumb amputated in table saw

At approximately 8:00 a.m. on June 22, 1999, Employee #1, of Weidner Architectural Signage, was using a 10 in. diameter table saw to make a dado cut on one side of a 4 by 4 post. He had started the cut near the top of the board when the board kicked back through the saw. Employee #1's left hand slipped off the end and into the saw blade, amputating his left thumb. Coworkers tried to stop the bleeding until paramedics arrived. Employee #1 was transported by ambulance to U.C. Davis Medical Center, where attempts to re-attach his thumb were unsuccessful.
