Employee injured when nail gun discharges into chest

Employee #1, of Clyde Miles Construction Company, Inc., a framing contractor, was one in a group of carpenters working on a two-story house in Antioch, CA. He was using a nail gun with his left hand to install studs in a tight corner on the ground floor. The nail gun bumped against a stud and its muzzle pushed into Employee #1's chest; the safety lever was activated and the gun fired a 3 1/4 in. nail into Employee #1's chest. He sustained puncture injuries that required hospitalization.
