Employee's fingertip amputated between tire rim and hub

On October 6, 1997, Employee #1, a worker on a prune farm, was changing a tire on the left front side of a Case 580D loader/backhoe. He was rotating the hub to align the belt holes when the hub pivoted downward. Employee #1's right little finger extended into the small gap caused by the tire and rim being too snug, amputating the tip between the rim and the hub. Less than 1/4 in. was amputated, but the bone had to be shortened slightly to allow enough flesh to close the wound.
