Event: 04/12/1999
Finger tip ampuated when crushed

An employee was working as a trimmer helper in a paper mill. He was checking the tape that had been placed on the rolls on the carton line. The tape was being used to drive section B of the carton line. This section had a broken-down gear box and was not operating on electrical power. The tape was placed on section A to drive section B. The employee had placed his fingers on the tape when section A was turned on. The employee's hand and fingers were caught between the tape and the metal roll and his right ring finger was amputated at the first knuckle.
