Employee injured when he fell and struck head on curb

This is a small employer who installs marble and granite. Employee #1 worked for the company as a laborer. This was Employee #1's first day on the job. Employee #1 was standing on the ground next to a company truck that was loaded with six pieces of marble. The pieces of marble were approximately four feet wide by five long. There were three pieces on each side of the truck, resting on an "A" frame to hold them in place. The three pieces on the driver's side of the truck were removed first. As the first piece on the passenger side of the truck was being moved, it tipped and fell from the truck. Each piece weighs approximately 350 pounds. Employee #1 saw the piece falling and stepped back from the truck and tripped. Employee #1 struck his head on the curbing beside the truck. Employee #1 was hospitalized and treated for fractures to his skull.
