Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 170623953
Event: 05/19/1998
Employee killed when crushed in hoof trimming machine

Employee #1 was upgrading the controls on a hoof trimming machine and installing new controls and safety devices. He was cycling the machine to position the main carriage down and then partially up so that e could access the controls. Instead of facing the machine for this task, he faced away and used the old controls. The main carriage caught his belt and pants and pulled him into the hoof trimmer, crushing him between the truck cab and the main carriage. He was cut out of the machine by the fire department and transported by ambulance to the hospital, where he died.
